When you think of the First Viennese School, symphony and string quartet come to mind immediately. And yet the original Viennese art form of the late 18th and early 19th century was indeed the piano trio. The musicians of the Boulanger Trio have dedicated themselves to this especially unregulated (and therefore innovative) ›stepchild‹ of music history. The Trio is one of the few full-time piano trio formations worldwide, fascinating audiences and the press alike with their passionate performances and intelligent interpretations. In Brühl the Boulanger Trio performs three absolute key works of the genre: Joseph Haydn’s London high society performance with its shocking, folksy final movement ›in the German Style‹, Beethoven’s dynamic and deliberately ›ghostly‹ trio to kick off the 19th century, and the trio of fantasies by the young Robert Schumann which seem to carry off into enchanting soundscapes.
