Saison 2017

Vivaldi meets Telemann

Dorothee Oberlinger (recorder)
Dmitry Sinkovsky (violin and countertenor)
Vittorio Ghielmi (viola da gamba)
Peter Kofler (harpsichord)

Antonio Vivaldi influenced the European music scene in the first quarter of the 18th century like perhaps no other composer. Georg Philipp Telemann, the most well known German Baroque composer after Bach and Händel, was himself deeply impressed by the Venetian’s work. The 25th of June 2017 marks 250 years since Telemann’s death. No wonder, then, that everywhere Old Music is cherished “TeleMania“ runs rampant – and Augustusburg Palace is no exception. The festival boasts a standard-bearer of Telemann interpretation in the internationally celebrated recorder player Dorothee Oberlinger, who was recognized for her merits and appointed a Telemann Ambassador by the Telemann City Network. With her seasoned fellow musicians, she will play a colorful, mixed vocal-instrumental programme in which Vivaldi honors his German contemporary with a beguilingly beautiful operatic aria and a sonata “hit.“
